Privacy Policy
We built Dreamscape to respect your privacy. Your dreams are personal — they stay on your device.
1. Who we are
Dreamscape is developed by Black Layers (blacklayers.ca), a Canadian software studio. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Dreamscape iOS application.
2. Information we collect
What you provide: • Dream narrations recorded via voice — audio is transcribed on-device using Apple SFSpeechRecognizer. No audio file is stored or transmitted to our servers. • Text you enter in the journal or review screen • Wake time and notification preferences you configure Automatically collected: • Anonymous crash reports via Sentry — no personal data or dream content is attached • Anonymous usage events via Mixpanel — feature interaction only, never dream content • Subscription status via RevenueCat — no payment details are stored by us
3. How we use your information
• To generate AI-powered dream interpretations via the Gemini API (Google). Only the transcribed text of your dream is sent — no identifying information. • To store your dream journal locally on your device using SwiftData • To send morning reminder notifications (only if you explicitly enable this) • To improve app reliability and fix bugs Dream content is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.
4. Third-party services
The following services are used within Dreamscape: • Google Gemini API — Dream interpretation. Data shared: dream transcription text only. • RevenueCat — Subscription management. Data shared: App Store receipt. • Sentry — Crash reporting. Data shared: anonymous device and crash data. • Mixpanel — Usage analytics. Data shared: anonymous feature events. • OneSignal — Push notifications. Data shared: device push token. Each service processes only the minimum data required for its function. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
5. Data storage & security
Your dream journal is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. It is not automatically uploaded to any server. Audio from your voice recordings is processed entirely on-device — no raw audio ever leaves your phone. Future versions may offer optional cloud backup via Firebase; you will be asked to opt in explicitly before any data is synced.
6. Children's privacy
Dreamscape is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us immediately at info@blacklayers.ca and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: • Delete all local dream data by deleting the app from your device • Opt out of anonymous analytics by contacting us • Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you • Request correction or deletion of your data To exercise any of these rights, email info@blacklayers.ca.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. For material changes, we will notify you via an in-app banner. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
